Founded in 1976, the Chinese Dance Workshop (CDW) is registered as a charitable and non-profit organization and is managed by a dedicated team of young professionals on a voluntary basis. Its major goal is to preserve and promote, in Canada, the rich cultural heritage of Chinese dance by providing a forum for training and by presenting works at professional standards to the public.

To achieve this goal, students at the Chinese Dance Workshop are taught by professional teachers and choreographers from China and Hong Kong who have, amongst them, many years of teaching experience. Through these classes, the students not only acquire the beautiful art form, but also the discipline and a respect towards life itself.

Over the years, the Chinese Dance Workshop has engaged in and continues to be involved in many out-reach programs and has performed at numerous cultural and community events. Periodically, the Chinese Dance Workshop initiates full-scale productions at professional venues and theatres.

Its appearances at these events broaden public accessibility to Canada's multicultural heritage as well as expand the traditional arts audience.
